Daran Armstrong '79

Daran played basketball in Jr. High at Stevenson and by the time he arrived at John Glenn High School, he had advanced to a level that he was an immediate starter. His coach at John Glenn was Hall of Famer, Gordie Davis. During Daran’s three years at Glenn, the basketball team excelled and Daran set many records. The team won 3 league championships and also a District and Regional Championship in 1978. Daran was selected First Team All Conference in 1977, 1978, and 1979. He was All Area in 1978 and 1979. He also attained All State honors in 1979.

Daran set the following records while at JGHS:

• Career scoring 1106 points (before the 3 point rule)
• Assists - Single Game 20 - Season 240 - Career Leader
• Steals - Single Game 13 - Season and Career Leader

Daran also participated on the baseball team in 1977 and 1979 and was named All Area and All State in 1979 when the team won the District Championship. In 1978 Daran was on the track team in the hurdles and long jump events. His grade point average during high school was an admirable 3.92.

After high school, Daran attended Henry Ford Community College where he was selected All Conference and Junior College All American. Daran finished his college career at Wayne State University and was All Conference and the team advanced to NCAA II college playoffs his senior year, 1983.
