Gordie Davis

Gordon Davis graduated from Wayne High School in 1945 and received varsity letters in 3 sports - football, basketball, and baseball. He was a member of the Wayne High State Championship Football Team in 1945 and was also selected to the All-Conference 1st Team for basketball. After high school graduation, Gordon attended Tarkio College in Missouri for 2 years where he received athletic letters in football, basketball, and track. He transferred to Albion College for his final 2 years where he played basketball and ran track. His senior year at Albion, the track team was undefeated and Gordon set a school record for the half mile event.

Gordon’s most noted athletic accomplishments have been at John Glenn High School where he was the head basketball coach for 15 years. During this period he achieved the following:

• 8 League Championships
• 3 District Championships
• Detroit News Metro-West Coach of the Year 1978
• Detroit Free Press Suburban Coach of the Year 1987
• Overall record of 213 wins and 118 losses

Gordon retired from Wayne Westland School District in 1992.
